Ethiopian Church Portraits

The portraits below are of people that attend the local Ethiopian church in Philadelphia, Pa. This was a project I worked on to showcase my Ethiopian culture. I wanted to show the vibrant culture to those who may not know the unique aspects that make up the Ethiopian culture.

Pulitzer Center For Crisis Reporting 2018 Student Fellowship

During the summer of 2018, I was fortunate to travel to Ethiopia and report on the foreign adoption ban that was placed in January of 2018. I traveled to Ethiopia for three weeks and worked with different orphanages around the country. I worked with Yenege Tesfa, Hope for Tomorrow Orphanage in Gondar Ethiopia, Kidana Mehert Orphanage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and People to People Children Home right outside of Addis Ababa. The photographs below showcase the portraits I took while traveling to these different orphanages, as well as what I saw while walking through markets and traveling from city to city. With this project, I wanted to showcase the beauty of Ethiopia and highlight what might be next for the children living in the orphanages. As an Ethiopian-American, I considered it important to share my culture with my community in the United States. I completed the project in October 2018. Below are links to the story I wrote and a video I created that was published on the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting website.

Journalistic Photography

Below displays an assortment of photographs I took ranging from different categories. They were taken during internships, and positions I held throughout my career so far. There is an example of my sports photography, news photography, and event photography. I always enjoy capturing moments and sharing them with my audience.
